The CHECK-AT app serves as a practical tool for the verification of the new Austrian passport and ID card. This application enables users to easily and securely examine the QR code and various security features associated with the latest passport generation.

The verification process is designed to be straightforward, requiring no prior technical expertise. In addition to the QR code check, the CHECK-AT app provides guided steps for verifying individual security elements present on the Austrian passport and ID card. Through illustrative examples, users can systematically evaluate both digital and physical security features of these documents without necessitating specialized knowledge.

Importantly, the app supports local verification without accessing personal data via the internet. During the QR code check, the information displayed remains confined to the verifying device; all relevant data is embedded directly within the QR code. The app does engage with the internet initially to verify the availability of new certificates essential for accurate and secure QR code validation. Should new certificates be available, they are downloaded automatically to the device. Beyond this initial check, the app remains offline, ensuring that no personal information is accessed or transmitted online.
